This simple hummus without tahini takes 5 minutes to prepare, uses common ingredients, and is so much cheaper than the packaged stuff.
I make this simple hummus without tahini all the time. I absolutely love hummus, and typically have some stocked in my refrigerator. Iโve tried just about every fancy variety and flavor combination of hummus that there is. At some point I started wondering, why is this little tub of bean dip so expensive? I mean come on, itโs mostly just beans, which cost next to nothing. So, I started making my own.
Not only is it cheaper to make your own hummus, but you control the quality of ingredients that go into it. So, there are no weird preservatives or fillers in your dip.
To make this dip, add garbanzo beans, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, salt, and a little bit of water to a food processor. Then, blend until smooth. Thatโs it! It really is simple. Serve it up with your favorite dippers, like whole grain crackers, chopped veggies, or tortilla chips.
Why skip out on the tahini? Well, you certainly donโt have to. I just find that tahini is one of those ingredients that I donโt always have on hand. And, itโs by far the most expensive ingredient in hummus.
Tahini is a paste made out of sesame seeds. It kind of reminds me of sesame flavored peanut butter. I like it. And, I like hummus that has tahini in it. I just donโt find it necessary. So if I donโt have it, which I often donโt, this is my go-to recipe.

Still want tahini in your hummus? No problem. Just add 2 tablespoons of tahini to the food processor with the rest of the ingredients and process until smooth.
Delicious and easy to make, will never buy store brought again. Just became one of my favorite appetizers for special eventsโค๏ธ
Iโve made other hummus recipes and they were a flop. Saving this one as it turned out great!
This is delicious! I added more garlic and cumin. Also added some smoked paprika. Didnโt even notice that there was no tahini. If I am going for that flavor, I normally just add some sesame oil anyway, rather than purchasing tahini, which is kind of expensive.
Loved it! I am a garlic lover so I doubled the garlic and didnโt bother either the cumin, even though I love it too! It was great!!
Best one Iโve made! My son has a sesame allergy and I wanted to make hummus for a healthy snack for myself so this is perfect!
Made this recipe today and it is perfect! I used a blender instead of a food processor since I donโt have one. Turned out great!
Sounds promising! I always use tahini but will try this. I normally add parsley and when I have them, green onions to my hummus, and I think those would work fine with a tahini-free hummus, too.
By the way, would a bit of peanut butter be a good addition, if i have some good quality p.b. on hand (and no tahini)?
Thanks.

Delicious!! Just added a dash of apple cider vinegar to give it that extra zing!
I just found out I have Celiac Disease and Iโm allergic to sesame seeds!! So thank you for this recipe! Now I can have my beloved humus again!
Made this with my class, a group of 6, 7, 8, and 9 year olds. The recipe was simple enough for them to follow independently with only a little help from me! They loved it. Many of them had never tried hummus before and they all enjoyed it and said they wanted to make it for their families! We made a double batch since the whole class of 23 would be eating it. Only adjustment I made was a little less lemon juice (3 tbsp instead of 4), and just 1 garlic clove so the flavor wasnโt too strong. Thank you!!
Thank you, thank you for this recipe. I found this recipe a few months ago on my search for hummus with no tahini. This is absolutely perfect so simple to make and once you make it, youโll never want store bought again. We often add roasted red peppers as that is our favorite hummus.
This is the perfect hummus recipe ๐๐!!!!! After having this I donโt even like the store bought stuff anymore!
I made hummus for the first time with your recipe but I just added extra garlic and half of a chicken bouillon Cube and some paprika came out delicious
About to try this.As I donโt like cumin what can I use in its place.
My husband has been super big on garbanzo beans lately and I try I switch it up and make other things for him. I mentioned hummus and he was excited so I thought Iโd give it a try. I have never had tahini on hand so I was pumped to come across your recipe. Thank you!
Made this recipe for the first time today. Absolutely love it. Have previously made with Tahiti and was a little sceptical at how it would turn out. You have one me over. Simple to make, very creamy and awesome taste. Only changes I made was to add a little extra garlic (yes obsessed with garlicโฆlol) and also added about about a level tablespoon of chives. (Yes, another obsessionโฆlol). Thank you.
I would like to know how to make hummus. I have canned garbanzo beans, garlic olive oil, and fresh garlic.
Thank you! I do not keep tahini, either. And Iโm wondering if sesame oil could replace the olive oil to get the tahini flavor, just as well.
I ran out of tahini! I used 1/2 teaspoon of japanese sesame oilโฆtasted good!!
The hummus without tahini was the best. Everyone loved it!!!!!! ๐
I multiply all ingredients by four times for every get-together. I add jalapenos and extra garlic. I have made it many times. Itโs a recipe Iโll continue to use, itโs so easy to make in a blender.
Amazing, thank you!
Thank you!! I have been searching everywhere to find a hummus recipe with NO tahini!
